No matter where you go in the world, everyone has heard of Loch Ness, Scotland's lake which hides a mighty monster beneath it's depths. People come from far and wide for their chance to see if they can "spot nessie" and we love taking our guests to the Loch and all of the other beautiful places in the area.

Please see below for some ideas but you are not limited to just these places so email us with what you're looking for and we'll create a bespoke tour just for you.

tour highlights

Cromarty firth and Black Isle

Otters are present on the estuary between 50 and 100 common seals haul our of the seabanks east of the Cromarty Bridge. In addition to this a population of bottlenose dolphins regularly visit the Cromarty Firth.

Despite its name, the Black Isle is not an island, but a peninsula surrounded on three sides by water - the Cromarty Firth to the north, the Beauly Firth to the south and the Moray Firth to the east. The Black Isle was one of the earliest parts of Northern Scotland to experience the clearances.

Urquhart Castle

The historic Urquhart Castle proudly sits on the shores of Loch Ness and draws crowds from all over the world. The present ruins date from the 13th to 16th centuries but some sources claim William the Lion had a royal castle at Urquhart in the 12th century.

What better way to see it than cruising in on a boat and the best thing about this option is you don't have to queue at Urquhart Castle which is a huge bonus or cruise days.

Jacobite Cruises

Fancy something different? How about a cruise on Loch Ness with the award winning Jacobite cruises. There's the option to go on a 1 hour Loch Ness cruise with views of Urquhart Castle or you can be dropped off at Urquhart Castle and have a 1hr tour of the castle.

inverness

The capital of the Highlands sits on the river ness and features excellent restaurants, walks and shopping opportunities. Guests often choose to have lunch on the river. The Mustard Seed Restaurant is one of our favourite places to dine with excellent staff, delicious food and great views. Alternatively if we're near Culloden Battlefield at lunchtime we always try and drop in to The Glass House at Simpsons Garden Centre. Delicious freshly made sandwiches, baked potatoes and lots of yummy home cooked food & baking!

Culloden battlefield

The final battle between the British Army and Jacobite forces took place on the moors of Culloden finally putting an end to the Scots bid for freedom.

The visitor centre and exhibition take you on a journey back in time and give you a real insight in to what happened all those years ago. Some of our guests spend hours here while others like to just walk around the battlefield and imagine what it might of been like for the mighty warriors.
There's also a great example of a Thatch house which we rather like!

clava cairns

The real standing stones of Inverness are estimated to have been there since around 2000 BC. This bronze age burial cairn has gained a huge amount of interest following the Outlander books and Tv series. You will now find people from all over the world touching the largest stone and posing for pictures much like people do at the leaning tower of Pisa. Even if you're not an Outlander fan this place of tranquility has an amazing feel and is one of our favourite places to share with our guests.

Cawdor castle

Dating from the late 14th century and still lived in to this day Cawdor Castle is magnificent to behold and is a fantastic example of a private fortress.

Fromer Vogue editor, Lady Isabella Cawdor, moves to another residence during the summer to allow guests to wander around her home in amazement. Mentioned in Shakespeare’s Macbeth, Cawdor Castle has a medieval tower built around the legendary holly tree. The grounds are gardens are also a big draw to the castle.
